Often this happens if a user makes one account using Facebook signup, and another using Google Signup. Try to log out of the account you're currently logged into, and select a different login method. Once you get back into your original account, all of your units and XP will still be there when you reconnect. If you signed up a long time ago, you may have used a username and password to sign up.
